Card Making at WFSC – 1 Nov. 16

T’is the Season. Designer and Teacher Sharon Massey had two Christmas Cards for the class to make. One was pretty simple with stockings hanging ready for Santa’s gifts. The other one made up for it with all the pieces that had to be stamped, cut, embossed and assembled. But it was worth it!! The class may have been small but we enjoyed visiting over lunch where we get to know each other better. It was Jan’s second time going to WFSC with us. She is going to be a ‘Relief Teacher’. If Sharon or Jackie are unavailable, Jan will step in. That’s really going to help!!

If you haven’t experienced the class, consider joining us. We are at WFSC the 1st & 3rd Tuesday each month with class beginning at 10 and ending with lunch 12ish.

Spiritual Fitness

The WTB Chaplain is bring warriors to Enchanted Rock to hike the trails, climb the rock, explore the cave or just commune with nature.  Around noon everyone will meet back at the van to be transported to Hondo’s on Main for lunch and to share stories of the morning’s adventures.

It should be cooling off by then and be great weather for a hike.

Contact the WTB Chaplain’s Office  for schedule details.

Day Event

September Spiritual Fitness

Spiritual Fitness was started by Rob Ginsburg, Chaplain of WTB (Warrior Transition Battalion) for several reasons.  He loves the outdoors, hiking and rock climbing and he believed bringing warriors in treatment to Enchanted Rock, being surrounded by God’s beauty, would aid in their physical and spiritual recovery.  Now that Rob has been transferred, we have been blessed with a new Chaplain, David Thompson, second from right in photo.  He is new to the Hill Country and was excited after his first Spiritual Fitness outing on September 30.  He plans to continue the event and possibly expand it.

Happenings

Vacation is Almost Over

It’s really true that time flies when your having fun!!  Back in May having three months to rest, hone grand parenting skills and travel seemed like LOTS of time.  Where did it go?  In just 21 days (20 Sept) Card Classes at the Warrior Family Support Center (WFSC) will resume. Then on the 23rd Chaplain Thompson will bring warriors to Enchanted Rock for a Spiritual Fitness outing. Then on the 24th the Fritztown Bass Club hosts the Annual American Heros Fishing Tournament at Lake LBJ. Phew!

Card Classes: meet in the Craft Room at 10a.m. on the first and third Tuesday each month.  They are free to everyone. We provide all the supplies and instructions on what to do with them.  Of course, you are free to use your “artistic license” completing the cards.  Usually you make two greeting cards which are yours to keep. There is a sign up sheet at WFSC however, if you forget to sign up you can still stop by and join us.  Hope to see you there!!

Spiritual Fitness: This will be Chaplain Thompson’s first Spiritual Fitness trip to Enchanted Rock.  You will need to signup at the Chaplain’s office.  They will provide all the details.  BRING WATER – IT WILL BE HOT ON THE ROCK!!

4th Annual American Hero’s Fishing Tournament: Fritztown Bass Club is once again sponsoring a fishing tournament complete with trophies, gifts, food, and lots of fun and fellowship.  Details are on the calendar (Click Here) and signup at WFSC!!  To see photos from last years evet check out our Photo Gallery

The Team is all rested and excited to be getting back to WFSC, getting better acquainted with Chaplain Thompson, seeing old friends, making new ones and just seeing where GOD leads us.

Happenings

May 6-8, 2016, R & R

The ministry is taking the summer to refresh and play with grandchildren so the R&R held May 6-8 was the last event until September. And what a delightful event it was!! There were 13 children laughing and playing.

Friday evening started off with a Taco Bar dinner and leisurely getting to know one another.  Everyone was on their own until dinner on Saturday.  When we arrived at Memorial Presbyterian Church for dinner there were several church members there to welcome the guests and visit with them during dinner.

After dinner the children discovered the church playground was unlocked.  They were so excited but asked permission before going in.  The ladies who had hosted the dinner were gracious enough to allow the children to work off some of that “Kid Energy”.  It was fun watching them team up and become friends sharing and competing on the swings and overhead bars.  It was so amazing watching the way they responded to their parents.  Talk about well behaved children!!  Something one doesn’t always see.

We were also blessed with a visiting Air Force chaplain.  He was just finishing up his internship and agreed to attend the R&R in Chaplain Ginsburg’s place. He spent time visiting with each family, couple and WWAN team member in addition to playing with the children.  Chaplain Davidson proved to be a personable compassionate person who is always welcome to join us.

As you can see from the pictures some of us got a head start getting into “Grandma Mode”.

Card Making at WFSC

On May 3rd some of the WWAN Team held a card making class in the Craft Room at WFSC.  We made two cards that were a little more masculine than usual so would be appropriate for Father’s Day or a Guy’s birthday or just Thinking of You.

May 17th will be the last class until September.  We are taking the summer off to rest up and play with grand children.  IMG_4590cIMG_4592c

Thanksgiving

I hope you had a good Thanksgiving.  I was blessed to have one of my grandsons, his wife and three small children.  Yep, GREAT grand children!!  It was such a wonderful day.  Later I started thinking about all the things I’m thankful for – Family, Friends, Health, it goes on and on.IMG_3849

Then last Tuesday when Jackie and I were at WFSC teaching card making (Jackie teaches-I assist) I realized how thankful and blessed we are that y’all (warriors, spouses, care providers, etc.) continue to come to our classes.  It seems there is always someone new dropping in to join a regular or two and then up pops someone we haven’t seen in months!  You all are the reason we continue to make the drive from Fredericksburg to San Antonio every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month.  Love those hugs and catching up and/or getting acquainted.

Instead of cards, the project Jackie taught was a Santa Candy Box complete with red and green stripped mints.  IMG_3909

Day Event

Spiritual Fitness 11/13/2015

The cooler weather was perfect for hiking Enchanted Rock.  Chaplain Ginsburg, 7 warriors and a care provider arrived at the rock early Friday morning.  After a brief devotional those who were able climbed the rock while others hiked around the base of it.

Departure for lunch was delayed due to a few of the party getting lost. Eventually everyone arrived safe and sound and headed for West End Pizza in Fredericksburg.

The adventurers were joined by a wife of one of them and a couple of WWAN team members.  Everyone was hungry so while they waited on their entree several ordered cheese cake. “Life is short.  Eat dessert first”  Then Tara, our server, brought out samples of Tiramisu complements of West End Pizza. The food was excellent, as usual.  Later at the R&R dinner a couple who had been on the hike was encouraging others to go there on Saturday.
