Happenings
The weekend of December 4th-6th was our annual Family Retreat. Everyone arrived and checked in at Inn on Baron’s Creek then gathered in the conference room for orientation and dinner. After dinner it was up to main street for the parade. In case you haven’t guessed, we always schedule the Family Retreat to coincide with the parade. This was the first time in Fredericksburg for some of our guests and others had never seen a lighted parade. Chairs had been set up in front of the Nimitz Museum for the families. If claps and cheers are any indication, everyone really enjoyed the parade. There were several comments about how nice it was to see several nativity scenes on floats.

Saturday all met back in the conference room for an exercise in the 5 Languages of Love. After lunch everyone was free to go ice skate, visit the museum, explore main street or just hang out. During dinner there were drawings for gifts ranging from CDs to Gift Cards to Pray Shawl (every family received an adult gift and one for a child). Then Sunshine the clown arrived to entertain the kids (both big and small).

WWAN thanks Angel Chefs who not only donated all the food but prepared and served it. Also, it was really great to see a couple of families who haven’t been here in a while.
We had good weather, Old Friends, and made some New Friends. What more could you ask for?
All photos from the event can be seen in the “Family Retreat” album.

I hope you had a good Thanksgiving. I was blessed to have one of my grandsons, his wife and three small children. Yep, GREAT grand children!! It was such a wonderful day. Later I started thinking about all the things I’m thankful for – Family, Friends, Health, it goes on and on.
Then last Tuesday when Jackie and I were at WFSC teaching card making (Jackie teaches-I assist) I realized how thankful and blessed we are that y’all (warriors, spouses, care providers, etc.) continue to come to our classes. It seems there is always someone new dropping in to join a regular or two and then up pops someone we haven’t seen in months! You all are the reason we continue to make the drive from Fredericksburg to San Antonio every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month. Love those hugs and catching up and/or getting acquainted.
Instead of cards, the project Jackie taught was a Santa Candy Box complete with red and green stripped mints.
Day Event
The cooler weather was perfect for hiking Enchanted Rock. Chaplain Ginsburg, 7 warriors and a care provider arrived at the rock early Friday morning. After a brief devotional those who were able climbed the rock while others hiked around the base of it.
Departure for lunch was delayed due to a few of the party getting lost. Eventually everyone arrived safe and sound and headed for West End Pizza in Fredericksburg.
The adventurers were joined by a wife of one of them and a couple of WWAN team members. Everyone was hungry so while they waited on their entree several ordered cheese cake. “Life is short. Eat dessert first” Then Tara, our server, brought out samples of Tiramisu complements of West End Pizza. The food was excellent, as usual. Later at the R&R dinner a couple who had been on the hike was encouraging others to go there on Saturday.
