To the extent possible we take pictures at every event and use them on Facebook, our Blog, Newsletter, etc., to further the ministry.
If you have pictures of an event you’d like to share, please email them to us so we can add them to the gallery. Be sure to include your name, contact information, date of event and something you’d like to say about the photo(s) and/or event. We will be happy to give you credit as the photographer. We also need assurance that people in the photos have given permission to use their picture.
Enchanted Rock 10/2/24

Kayaking San Marcos
On September 24, 2024, patients in treatment or transition at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX, gathered in Sam Marcos for a day of fun kayaking. The weather was perfect for a day on the water. Ben Kvanli, owner of Olympic Outdoor Center, supplied all the kayaks and equipment required for the float. Team Building
The first event of the September, 2024 - May, 2025 schedule was held at Krause Springs on Thursday, September 19th. It was well attended by members of the SRU at Fort Cavazos. Hopefully it is the first of many events with them. The event was designed to show the Cadre and Staff members various techniques to deal with the stress generated by their jobs and ways to work together better as a team. Kayaking May 14, 2024
Chaplin Hatcher brought SRU patients, nurses and case managers to Louis Hayes Park in Kerrville, TX for a day of fun on the water. Upon arrival they were greeted by Wounded Warriors at Nebo volunteers with breakfast tacos and other snack items. Then they grabbed a kayak and headed for a leisurely trip on the Guadalupe River. Some even explored the 6 mile hiking trail. Then it was lunch time after which they enjoyed the park for a while and headed back to Fort. Sam Houston. Ben Kvanli, Olympic Outdoor Sports, St. Markus furnished all the kayaks and some much needed instructions. First Baptist Church donated the delicious breakfast tacos. Family Holiday R&R
December 1-3 fifteen (15) families with 27 children among them joined Wounded Warriors at Nebo in Fredericksburg for the annual lighted Christmas Parade and other special activities. Friday evening dinner was in the Nimitz Ballroom with the Nimitz Rotary Club providing a delicious meal of prime rib & chicken and all the trimmings. Every child and adult got to pick out their favorite hand knit cap as they registered. After dinner guests went outside to watch the parade. Thank you goes out to the soldiers who shared their photos with us. Nine soldiers from the Soldier Recovery Unit came to Fredericksburg on 10 October to explore the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. More details in Blog of same name.
Golfing
Eight Warriors were invited to participate in the Nimitz Foundation Golf Classic June 9. They were excited to play at Boot Ranch Golf Course. Each player was teamed with local foursomes which allowed them to form new friendships. While our photographer could not get a group photo of the teams or warriors he did get some great action shots. Feedback was very positive. It included everything from "I love the course and hope to play here again" to "I made new friends who plan to stay in touch."

Family Christmas R&R
Fifteen families came to Fredericksburg 2 December 2022 to watch the Lighted Christmas Parade and enjoy the other festivities throughout the weekend. This is the one weekend of the year where it is difficult to get good pictures of the families because they are so busy. Photos of attendees are in this album. Enchanted Rock - 13 October 2022

Couples in Relation Retreat 19-21 November 2021

Photos on 20 November taken by Bill Sadd of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church Soldiers and their spouses traveled from San Antonio to Fredericksburg for a weekend of relaxing and to attend counseling sessions from the Soldiers in Recovery Unit Chaplain on how to strengthen and maintain relationships. Homemade Cookies, Anyone?
Members of the DAR in Fredericksburg make and donate 4-6 dozen cookies twice a month so we can pass them out at the Warrior Family Support Center after card making class. More details may be found in the blog.

November, 2019 R & R
Couples and Families spent the weekend in Fredericksburg enjoying the awesome weather and enjoying each other. Holy Ghost Lutheran Church hosted Friday evening dinner with made from scratch chicken fajitas followed by ice cream and bunuelos. Memorial Presbyterian Church hosted Saturday's dinner with lasagna, salad, garlic bread and lots of desserts. For more details to to the Post 'November, 2019 R & R
Boot Ranch
Boot Ranch hosted 11 warriors to 9 holes of golf complete with carts and caddies. Wounded Warriors at Nebo provided lunch for them in the club house prior to heading for the golf course. September, 2019 Marriage Retreat
September 13-15, 2019, couples and families attended counseling sessions in Fredericksburg, TX. Chaplain Shannon organized and lead the sessions. He also had a guest speaker, a social worker. More details can be found in the blog 'Identifying & Expressing Your Feelings' on the home page.
Pampering and Relaxing
Five ladies spent the weekend in Fredericksburg being pampered and enjoying some much needed relaxation. They all are care providers for their spouse/wounded warrior. For more of the story go to the Blog of the same name on the home page.
Nimitz Golf Classic
The Nimitz Foundation invited 8 wounded warriors to play in their tournament and 3 others to ride in the back seat of WWII airplanes which would open the tournament with fly overs at Boot Ranch Golf Club including loops and spins. Marines in Seguin
June 14th started bright and early for Jackie, Dottie & Sharon as they were joining Marines from the Marine Annex, Fort Sam Houston at the Lazy U Ranch in Seguin for their town hall meeting. We arrived about 9 a.m. and were greeted by Brandon, our POC and several others who took the peach cobblers (still warm) to the kitchen area for us while we joined other marines and their families in the pavilion just as the meeting began. We were one of several organizations who had been invited to address the families letting them know what our organizations do and how they can participate. After the presentations everyone disbursed to enjoy being outdoors and some of the many activities available. We provided lunch from Bill Millers BBQ with dessert of fresh peach cobbler from Clear River Pecan Co., Fredericksburg. Of course there was ice cream for the warm cobbler. It was a beautiful day to be outside with just enough breeze to keep from being hot. In addition to fishing and canoeing there was archery complete with an instructor, board games and miscellaneous other games to keep everyone busy & involved. Fun day with good people.

May 2019 Retreat
Thirteen couples/families arrived in Fredericksburg Friday afternoon to attend a retreat led by Chaplain Thompson where they would gain insight into some of the things that help make a marriage strong. The Chaplain was joined by three guest speakers each of whom spoke on subjects pertinent to a healthy marriage. Children accompanying their parents for the weekend were busy with their own activities while parents were in session. Additional details appear in the blog post "May 2019 Retreat"
R & R in Fredericksburg, February 22-24
Families from the WTB, Warrior Transition Battalion met in Fredericksburg Friday night for a weekend of relaxation and fun. Meals, lodging and entertainment were provided by the ministry.
