Enchanted Rock -13 Oct 2022
What a perfect day for an outdoor adventure. It was a sunny day with a temperature in the upper 60’s. The bus arrived at Enchanted Rock with 13 souls who were either in treatment or transition or helping care for them at Fort Sam Houston ready to explore the area. Elizabeth & Sharon were waiting for them with kolaches, juice and other munchies. After introductions and some other formalities everyone was off to hike up the Rock or follow the trails around the base of it. When everyone returned to the pavilion where there were still some snacks, there were lots of pictures and stories to share. Eventually everyone got back into the bus and headed for lunch at Hondo’s on Main. After eating they had to head back to San Antonio so they could pick up their children.
Although hiking is part of the physical therapy for warriors in treatment, they enjoy getting out in the “wild” at Enchanted Rock for a change. This was a first time experience for many of the attendees. It is such a blessing to visit with the men and women who come on these outings and hear the joy in their voices as they share their experience and you just know they were not only physically exercising but mentally relaxing also. There was little to no thought about “my next appointment”.
These outings wouldn’t happen without volunteers and supporters like the DAR who made the homemade cookies. And Hondo’s on Main who always takes very good care of us. Wounded Warriors at Nebo team members Elizabeth Fargason and Sharon Massey who went to Enchanted Rock bright and early to set up the snacks and drinks and greet the patients upon their arrival. Thank You one and all!!
A BIG thank you to the soldiers who shared their pictures taken on their hike. They can be view by following this link https://wwnebo.org/photos
