Hiking Enchanted Rock
Last Thursday, 14 April 2022, six soldiers and the SRU Chaplain came to Fredericksburg to hike and explore the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. They were met at the park pavilion by WWAN team members Sharon Massey, Richard Gray and Elizabeth Fargason. They were delighted to see that the team had brought kolaches, cinnamon rolls and cookies for them to snack on. We sure didn’t want them heading to the rock on an empty stomach!! After indulging in the kolaches and cinnamon rolls they were ready to begin exploring but decided to take cookies with them to eat along the way. One solder said he ran out of cookies and was thinking of going back for more but decided it was too far so continued his climb. They enjoyed the mild temperatures and the view from the top of Enchanted Rock. In addition to hiking, they had fun exploring the caves.
A couple of hours or so later they were back at the pavilion ready for a brief rest and more cookies. Everyone headed to Hondo’s on Main for a delicious lunch and to get better acquainted with WWAN team members. This was the first time most of the soldiers had been to Fredericksburg so we decided they couldn’t leave town without ice cream from Clear River Ice Cream, Bakery and Deli. Walking the three blocks to Clear River helped settle lunch and make room for a little ice cream. When we said goodby at Clear River, there was still enough time for them to check out some of the stores and galleries before heading back to Ft. Sam.
The pictures in the photo album here and on Facebook are courtesy of the soldiers who took them while exploring and then shared them with us. Those wonderful homemade cookies everyone couldn’t get enough of were donated by the Ephraim Andrews Chapter of DAR. And a big thank you to Hondo’s on Main who gave us a discount.
