Couples In Relation 19-21 November 2021

  • November 27, 2021November 27, 2021
  • by dottietheadmin

Eight couples and Chaplain Alex from the Soldier Recovery Unit (SRU) at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX. arrived in Fredericksburg Friday afternoon for a weekend of relaxing and with the Chaplain’s help, focusing on emotional awareness, reflection and growth of healthy relationships.

Everyone gathered at Hill Country Church for a delicious dinner with their first focus session to follow the meal. Church members volunteered to cook and serve the dinner while others were there to visit with the couples as they arrived and during the meal making them feel welcome and appreciated.

Saturday morning started with sessions 2 and 3 at the hotel followed by a break for lunch at Hondo’s on Main. Since couples were to spend the afternoon practicing what they had learned, they could set their own schedule for lunch.

St. Barnabas Episcopal Church hosted dinner Saturday evening. Couples were greeted with flowers for the ladies and individual photo which they were provided copies of to take with them. Volunteers served the delicious meal and made everyone feel welcome.

Sunday morning couples attended their last session. Prior to being dismissed, they received a devotional for couples and a box lunch. Some couples indicated they were going to explore Fredericksburg while others were headed back to San Antonio.

Church, St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, members of the DAR, The Inn on Baron’s Creek, Clear River Ice Cream, Bakery & Deli, Hondo’s on Main, The Museum of the Pacific War, Fritztown Cinema, The Pioneer Museum and the Wounded Warriors at Nebo team. Thank you for the generosity of your time, discounts and donations. Hopefully we haven’t forgotten anyone however if we did, GOD knows who you are!!

Day Event

Spa Day

  • October 22, 2021

Care givers are on “duty” 24/7.  That can become very draining even though they are caring for someone they love.  Sometimes a caregiver just needs a chance to get away and relax – think about something totally unrelated to their everyday life.  That’s what the Spa Day was designed to do – create an environment where the caregiver is pampered and made to feel special.

We met these ladies at Clear River Bakery and Deli for a snack and orientation ( have it on good authority that the peach cobbler rates a second helping).  From there 3 ladies went for massages at FredSpa while the other 3 went for a manicure & pedicure at Allure Nails.  We met up for lunch at West End Pizza then the 3 ladies who had gotten massages and were so relaxed they could hardly eat, headed to get their nails done.  And the other three were off for massages.

Everyone gathered back at Clear River where the bus was parked to take them back to San Antonio.  However, the ladies said they couldn’t leave town without sampling some ice cream.  The last we saw of them they were headed inside.

Unexpected Blessing Happenings

Unexpected Blessing

This Memorial Day marked the fourth year Pam and Neal Martin of Fredericksburg, TX, have hosted a gathering at their home in remembrance of those men and women who have sacrificed for our country.  Each year attendees are treated to food and entertainment for a donation which is then used to help a small local charity.

This year the Martins involved the Nimitz Rotary Club by asking them to provide some of the best smoked brisket I’ve tasted and for names of organizations to consider for the gift.  Wounded Warriors at Nebo ministry was one of several suggestions and ended up being chosen as the recipient of the very generous donation of which, 100% goes into the ministry.

Thank you all for your generosity.  It’s only because of people like you that we can continue to help those who have sacrificed so much.

God Bless you!

Enchanted Rock

FINALLY!! A group of warriors from the Soldiers in Recovery Unit (formally the Warrior Transition Battalion) came to Fredericksburg on Thursday, May20, 2021 for a day “On the Rock”.

Upon arrival they were met by several Wounded Warriors at Nebo team members and greeted with breakfast tacos, homemade cinnamon roles and other breakfast items. We are firm believers that the Army travels on their stomach. It was a perfect day for climbing Enchanted Rock. It was high 60s when they started and mid 70s by lunch time. Those that didn’t want to climb the rock hiked some of the trails around it.

Several team members met our guests at Hondo’s on Main in Fredericksburg for lunch. All of the climbers were wearing big smiles and said they had really enjoyed “The Rock Area” and were grateful for the day out. It was a treat to visit and get to know them a little.

SSG Pantaleon Montes was gracious enough to share photos he took while exploring the Enchanted Rock area. See all the photos he shared by following this link http://wwnebo.org/photos.

Special thanks go to the following: Brad Findley who donated the breakfast tacos, Hondo’s on Main who gave us a discount, Tammi Searles who made the cinnamon rolls and of course to all of the Wounded Warriors at Nebo team members who participated in organizing and executing this event.
